I purchased a Black & Decker CM1050B 12-Cup Programmable Coffeemaker when my Cuisinart DC-1200 was put to rest after 9 years of faithful service.

We decided to get the CM1050B as a stand-in until we were able to order another Cuisinart, and we also wanted to have a second coffeemaker for entertaining. Being able to serve regular and decaf coffee to our guests was a priority. We were drawn to the Black & Decker coffee maker for two reasons, the affordable price, and the high reviews. The CM1050B has been around forever, is a popular basic coffeemaker, and costs about a fourth as much as the other coffeemakers that I am reviewing.

We had the opportunity to use this coffeemaker for several weeks exclusively, so my review is coming from first hand experience.

Features Of The Black & Decker CM1050B 12-Cup Programmable Coffeemaker

  •  Quick Touch” programming for the clock and the 24-hour programming option- this is super simple to use.
  • Duralife Carafe- The Duralife makes for a stronger, harder-to-break carafe. It also has separate markings for the amount of coffee, and the amount of water.
  • Sneak-A-Cup Feature for Brew Pausing- The coffee does stop coming out when you remove the carafe, but read what I have to say about this feature below.
  • Dishwasher safe part- if you are using the dishwasher, all parts need to go on the top shelf. These removable parts include the carafe and lid, and the basket the filter goes into.
  • Two year warranty
  • The measurements are 13.9-inch by 11-1/2-inch by 8.9-inch- this is a fairly compact coffee maker; it fits into small spaces nicely.

Black & Decker CM1050B Reviews, What I Liked

I loved the price of this coffee maker; it’s so much less than most coffeemakers.  It also feels sturdy; you know how some coffeemakers just feel fragile? This isn’t one of them.

This machine is very straightforward and easy to use. I am mechanically challenged, and I didn’t have to crack open the owner’s manual.

The automatic programming was also simple to use, and worked like a charm.

The coffee machine made a good cup of coffee, although we did end up adjusting the amount of coffee that we used. Normally, we used 1 tablespoon for each cup of coffee. We adjusted this number up to 1.5 tablespoons per cup of coffee. After making that change, the coffee was perfect.

Black & Decker CM1050B Reviews – What I Dis-liked

There were a few things about the CM1050B that I did not like, all of them minor, but in the interest of full disclosure, I wanted to address them.

There is no function to let you know when your coffee is finished brewing. You have to listen closely to hear the machine stop huffing and puffing. Sometimes I miss it and waste precious minutes wandering aimlessly through the house with an empty coffee mug.

This would be an easy fix if the Sneak-A-Cup feature worked really well. This feature does what it is supposed to do by not allowing any coffee to spill on the burner while you are swiping coffee. However, the quality of the coffee that is taken is not what I have become accustomed to.

I understand that the coffee can be super strong if it is taken too early in the brewing cycle. But, this machine seems to take it a bit too far. So, we reluctantly started waiting for the whole pot to brew. Otherwise, one of us would have a turbo caffeine buzz, while the other fell asleep in the scrambled eggs.

Pros and Cons of the Black & Decker CM1050B 12-Cup Programmable Coffeemaker

This coffeemaker is a Great value. While it is not the most sophisticated coffeemaker, it still makes an excellent pot of coffee, and for less than $30.

This coffeemaker has Worked Perfectly and has been simple to operate from day one; this is not a coffeemaker that you will have to spend an hour studying the owner’s manual to understand. It does the job, and it does it well.

The 2-hour auto shut off is the perfect amount of time, just enough time to keep the coffee hot, and to ensure that you have had enough time to drink your fill.

I love the big water reservoir. The CM1050B has a large area to pour the water. This helps to eliminate spills during preparation, especially if you are not taking advantage of the 24 hour programming, and have to make your coffee in the morning, before you have had your maintenance dose of caffeine.

The carafe has been re-designed and now does an excellent job of being drip-free. This was a common complaint with the earlier model; a lot of people were having trouble with major coffee spills every time they poured. This has now been resolved.

The coffeemaker has no permanent filter. This is a value priced coffee maker, it doesn’t come with accessories.

Overall, you are getting a basic coffeemaker at a value price when you purchase the Black & Decker CM1050B 12-Cup Programmable Coffeemaker. This machine does not come with a lot of bells and whistles, but it does make a good cup of coffee.
