Best Overall Rotisserie: Cuisinart CVR-1000 Vertical Countertop Rotisserie

The Cuisinart CVR-1000 is one of the best rotisserie ovens currently available for purchase. This top of the line counter top rotisserie is both easy to use and an attractive addition to your kitchen. The chrome exterior has a sleek and classic look that is certain to look fantastic in any kitchen. And since this is a vertical rotisserie oven, it does not take up as much counter space as a traditional rotisserie.

The CVR-1000 is capable of handling up to 8 pounds of meat for roasting. As the meat roasts it actually bastes in its own juices so that you end up with really moist and easy to pull apart meat. The grease and fat from the meat drips off it as it rotates and collects in the removable drip tray for easy cleanup. It also means a healthier waistline for you and your family since the rotisserie meat is not soaking in the grease and fat.

This countertop Cuisinart rotisserie is chock of full of features. The controls are all in a touchpad, which is super easy to use. It features a LCD display panel so that you can keep an eye on the temperature setting. Here you will find the Start/Stop button, the button for the internal light and the temperature control buttons.

Even more convenient is the fact that it comes with five different pre-programmed temperature settings to make using the oven a one-step process. The temperature settings are the ones which are most commonly used. They are:

  • 325 degrees F
  • 350 degrees F
  • 400 degrees F
  • 425 degrees F
  • 450 degrees F

These will the temperatures that you will use to cook most things in the rotisserie oven. And if you are not sure which temperature to use, you can consult the recipe book that comes with the appliance. An important thing to note is that the recipe book, like most roasting recipe books, gives the cook time based on the weight of the meat or other item you are cooking. For this reason, you need to remember to take a look at the weight of the chicken or other item before throwing out its packaging. Cooking the food for too long can result in drying it out. Until you get used to using this rotisserie oven, it may take a little guesswork to determine which temperature works best for the items that you cook. It might be a good idea to make notes in the recipe book once you find the optimal settings for your family’s favorite recipes.

The recipe book is not the only thing you will find in the box with your new Cuisinart rotisserie oven. In fact, it comes with a few different items to make your cooking experience a little easier and more convenient. Additional accessories you will find in the box include:

The chrome insert is a really important piece because it helps to maintain a constant temperature in the oven. It does this by reflecting heat back up at the food that you have in the oven. The reason that this is important is because it not only ensures that the food is done in the allotted time, but also that it is cooked evenly throughout.

The inside of this vertical rotisserie oven is non-stick, which makes for a very easy cleanup. The removable pieces are all dishwasher safe, which means no hand washing the accessories that you decide to use.

If you are going to use the Cuisinart CVR-1000 rotisserie oven in a home where there are children present, you should know that it does release steam and heat through a vent on the top. For this reason, you cannot sit it on the counter where there are overhead cabinets. Instead, it needs to be in an open space on the counter. You do not need to worry about anyone burning their hands on the front of the oven as the large door handle is designed to remain cool to the touch. And the non-stick feet keep this small appliance firmly in place.

Largest Capacity Rotisserie: Ronco ST5000PLGEN Showtime Rotisserie Platinum Edition

If you’re looking for a slightly cheaper option than the Cuisinart, then you might want to consider the Ronco Showtime Rotisserie. Unlike the Cuisinart, this rotisserie oven offers horizontal cooking and is actually capable of roasting more meat – up to 15 pounds. That is a major advantage for people with large families.

Another difference, and possible disadvantage, of this Ronco rotisserie oven compared to the Cuisinart CVR-1000 is the temperature settings. On the Ronco, you cannot adjust the heat. The only settings are:

  • No heat rotation
  • Normal heat rotation
  • Pause and sear

The lack of temperature settings is a minor issue overall when it comes to cooking things that are not in the included recipe book. The manufacturer instructions advise you to cook for 15 minutes for each pound, but you will want to keep a close eye on what you are roasting to make sure that it does not get too done. With a little trial and error, you can determine exactly how long it takes to roast with the Ronco ST5000PLGEN rotisserie oven.

When you buy the ST5000PLGEN rotisserie oven, it comes with a few different accessories in the box. This is in addition to the recipe guide and instruction booklet. Here is what you get:

  • Oven gloves
  • Non-stick rotisserie basket
  • Loading and carving base
  • Food ties
  • Rotisserie BBQ DVD
  • Non-stick drip tray
  • Non-stick spit rod

This Ronco rotisserie oven offers decent value for the money. Even major publications agree as the Wall Street Journal selected this Ronco rotisserie as producing the best tasting rotisserie chicken in the shortest amount of cook time. They gave it their best overall rating. Men’s Health magazine and Good Housekeeping magazine have also raved about this little rotisserie oven. However, the Ronco 5000 is not without some minor problems. The interior of the oven in non-stick for easy cleanup. Cleaning this unit is slightly more involved than the Cuisinart, however, I have found that if you spray a little non-stick cooking spray on the back and on the grease collector it can make cleanup a lot easier.

Multi-functional Rotisserie: Hamilton Beach Countertop Oven with Convection and Rotisserie

One of the cheapest rotisserie oven options out there is this Hamilton Beach combo convection and rotisserie oven. The great thing about this rotisserie is that you can use it for things other than roasting meat, thanks to the fact that it is also a convection oven. However, if you are interested in just the rotisserie features, you should know that it has the smallest capacity of these three ovens at just 5 pounds. If you are not sure what that means for you, I can tell you that a 4-pound chicken feeds my family of two for several meals.

While you can only roast a small amount in this oven, it does actually have a rather large overall capacity. To give you an idea of how you can use this Hamilton Beach countertop oven, here is what it can hold:

  • Two cake pans at the same time, or
  • Two 9×13 size casserole dishes at the same time, or
  • Two 12-inch pizzas, or
  • Up to 5-pounds of chicken or other meat to roast

As you can imagine, this larger overall capacity means that the Hamilton Beach rotisserie oven takes up a lot more space on your counter than the Ronco and Cuisinart ovens.

Unlike the Ronco, this Hamilton Beach small appliance does have actual temperature settings for you to choose from. You can turn the knob to select your preferred temperature. There is also a separate knob for selecting the oven function, with choices of bake, convection and rotisserie. And the timer knob goes up to 120 minutes. You do not get any type of digital features with this rotisserie oven.

Like the Cuisinart, this rotisserie oven has a sleek and attractive chrome look that will make it a nice looking addition to your kitchen. You do not need anything special to use with it as it comes with all of the necessary accessories in the box. You get two baking pans, rotisserie accessories, two cooking racks and two broiler racks.

Based on all our research, customer comments – both pros and cons, we have concluded that the Cuisinart CVR-1000, is the best overall value when choosing a rotisserie.
